Academic Life

Our English department aims to instill pupils with a love of literature and language, with many lessons being discussion-based. Pupils are encouraged to express an informed personal response to a range of texts and are taught how to improve their analytical and creative writing skills, developing arguments with accuracy, fluency and sophistication.

In Maths, we nurture confidence and develop pupils' fluency in numeracy and algebra, teaching strategies to help pupils improve their ability to become expert problem solvers and to reflect on their answers.

We offer Geography and History to all year groups with Business Studies being an option at IGCSE and A Level. Additionally Economics and Psychology are optional subjects at A Level. All Humanities subjects are suited to those who are naturally curious and enjoy analysis. They teach pupils how to question what is presented to them and build critical thinkings skills. There are also many academic skills taught in Humanities including research and essay writing, preparing pupils for university and beyond.

We strive to make the learning of Biology, Chemistry and Physics relevant and engaging by employing a wide range of demonstrations and experimental work. By instilling a desire to understand and question the complexities and workings of the world around us and taking pupils beyond the syllabus, pupils develop their problem-solving and analytical skills, and achieve the highest academic standards. Pupils follow either combined (Double Award) or separate sciences (Triple Award) to GCSE. Pupils begin IGCSE Sciences in year 9, with pathway decisions taking place during year 10.

A fundamental understanding of computing enables pupils to be not just educated users of technology, but innovators capable of designing new computers and programmes to improve the quality of life for everyone. Computing is not only intellectually stretching, it also teaches problem-solving and leads to multiple career paths.

Our Modern Foreign Languages courses - in Thai, Mandarin, French and Spanish - all ensure pupils have a strong grasp of the formal written language, the confidence to speak in a variety of situations and the solid reading and comprehension skills. The aim is for our pupils to gain the confidence to communicate in an additional language - a great skill in the world that we are preparing our pupils for.

All pupils study Art until the end of Year 9 and can take it as an optional subject at both IGCSE and A Level. We also offer Photography as a separate subject from Year 10 upwards. Art combines the academic study of art and design with the development of creativity and practical skills. Pupils are introduced to a range of media, and this creative breadth allows them to discover their natural ability and strengths.

Pupils who enjoy thinking creatively, problem solving, designing products, making models, manufacturing products or testing ideas, will enjoy and flourish in IGCSE DT. The course is based around learning and developing the skills required to design and make products manufactured in woods, metals and plastics. Pupils use a wide range of creative industrial processes to shape and form materials into functioning products.

In Key Stage 3, all pupils explore Music, Dance, and Drama as part of their Performing Arts lessons, developing a broad foundation in creativity and performance. At IGCSE and A-Level, pupils have the opportunity to specialise in any of these disciplines, deepening their skills and artistic expression.

The Performing Arts challenge pupils creatively, physically, and academically, fostering confidence, teamwork, and leadership. Through collaboration and innovation, pupils bring ideas to life, develop their unique artistic voices, and gain skills that extend far beyond the stage.

IGCSE Drama at Brighton College Bangkok is an exciting and dynamic course for pupils passionate about theatre, whether as actors, directors, or designers. It encourages creativity, communication, collaboration, and leadership, while also developing skills in empathy and problem-solving.

Pupils gain both practical and theoretical knowledge, exploring rehearsal techniques, performance styles, and technical design elements such as set, costume, lighting, and sound. Through hands-on experience, they learn how to bring stories to life on stage with originality and confidence.

IGCSE Music at Brighton College Bangkok is a practical, creative, and academic course, offering pupils the opportunity to develop their performance skills, compose original music, and explore a wide range of musical styles.

Pupils gain a deeper understanding of how music is constructed and developed, from initial ideas to a finished piece. They also analyse music from different genres and cultures, while studying the social and historical influences that shape musical composition and performance.

This course is ideal for pupils who sing or play an instrument and want to refine their musicianship while developing a broad appreciation for the art of music.

IGCSE Dance at Brighton College Bangkok challenges pupils both physically and creatively, building confidence, self-expression, and teamwork. Through the roles of performer, choreographer, and director, pupils explore movement, develop technique, and bring imaginative ideas to life.

The course encourages collaboration and leadership while deepening understanding of choreographic processes, performance techniques, and dance analysis.
